I'm Not Sure About This, But...

I'm not positive 'bout this but I just received a letter form the government telling me I owe them money. The money is suspiciously in the amount of the special 'Homeless and Eviction (Prevention) Fund' that I received in the summer time so that I didn't end up homeless on the streets.

They are asking me now to pay it back?

Okay - so I face facts...it will be possible for me to let my apartment go, become homeless again and pay back this money.

*nods*

It is the right thing to do?

Okay - so that is what I will do if I have to. Become homeless in order to pay back the funds that the government assured me they were able to give and that I didn't have to repay - in order that I don't become homeless in Summer 2007.

What's the difference then? Homeless in Winter 2007 or homeless in Summer 2007.

Thank you Canada Government for not letting me become homeless in the Summertime! I don't want to go to jail, so you can have your money back and I don't know how long I will be homeless, but I'll figure something out.

The government knows every penny of my situation since they loaned me money (with interest) to go to the classes I attend in order to get a good job soon so that I won't ever have to be homeless again. If they know all about my money, then why would they let me access the special "Homeless and Eviction Prevention Fund?"

I'm sorry - but I must have to go back right to grade school and start all over because none of my education helps me understand ANYTHING that the government has asked of me in the past 5 years.

But they can have their money back - if it's that important

What happened? What was the justification? Doesn't sound right to me...

Ya, that sounds similar to my situation. Thats our all wise & loving government.. *cough* assholes *cough*

I'm in a similar boat, except for I had no money, have no money, and i'm just scraping enough money for room & board for the last year. During the summer I went on social assistance took a course on job skills (a bunch of basic things, first aid, cpr, etc..) and was planning on getting a job after the course. During the month long course I got an acceptance letter to college. (something I had planned on going to a year ago, but was put on the waiting list till this year.) So I went & talked to my social worker. She said that was awesome & urged me to take the course. I filled out the information for a student loan & sent in the forms.. then got a letter saying my assistance was cut off due to my being in school. Uhg, ok, no problem student loan right... wrong.. aparently because I didn't finish a course back in 2002 (which was the start of a bad spiral that left me homeless) I can't get a student loan, or they just want to keep sending the forms back & see how long I'll keep trying. So, ya, no real point to this, other than our government sucks. They don't give a shit about anyone (till voting time), unless you have 2.5 kids, a house, & a 2 car garage. As for people like us, who have the clothes on our back. & if we're lucky a room in a nice little old lady's house. We're fucked.
