Pope Squat Anniversary Action- One Week before the Night March

November 1st 2006 marks four years since the City of Toronto and Province
of Ontario ordered the Toronto Police to evict dozens of residents out of
1510 King Street West. Since that time the building has sat empty and as
we saw first hand today- has not been touched. After gathering for a meal
at the Parkdale Activity and Recreation Centre a small group of OCAP
members and Parkdale residents went to 1510 King St for a look inside the
building.

We saw that our Model Suite constructed by Pope Squat residents in 2002
remained untouched, decorations from residents remained on the walls and a
tour of the building highlighted the work that had been put in over the
four month-long occupation.

Eventually the landlord arrived to be followed shortly by the Police and
the Pope Squat Open House was closed. On November 9th we will be holding
a Night March to the Pope Squat to demand that the building be
expropriated and converted into Affordable Housing.
