Winterpeg Winter Warning Now In Effect

The cold has come, as it always does, this year a little later than most. With winter come my annual warnings and tips..

- cold weather is bad, but layer up, cold wet feet will cripple you out there so take my advice and save your plastic bags, grocery work best, they are reusable as socks, you're usually going to double them up if you can anyway, the idea is to layer a bag between the two socks, making a third, this is very warm, and will keep your feet dry from the outside wet, but... as you're not letting your feet beeath, they'll really sweat, so air them out when you' re able, don't go on like this for days, or it's foot rot

- shelter is important, if you have a place to go, a squat or shelter then go, if not, these few tips may help

- if you have a basic id card, something with the black magnetic strip then you can use that for bank machines, these are my favorite emergency shelters, once inside you can warm up a bit, it ain't exactly legal, but I've had a cop help me out in such situations, hitching through Ontario one year, so bank machines are good, met a woman in one, she took me home too, but I digress, also stairwells in apartment blocks, these are warm, and usually farely unused, so this is good, thirdly in Vancouver especially,I was turned on to parkades, these are great, if you can hide out of the way , then you;re set!!
