thwarted again

So I was downtown the other day making some film in Berri square here in Montreal. Of course anytime there's a punk walking around downtown with a camera people start to ask questions. I started talking to a group of kids on the street that were really interested in joining our site and sharing their experiences with the rest of us. Luckily we were right beside the national library, unluckily we weren't allowed to use the internet there because none of them had a proof of address to get a library card so the whole thing fell through.

This is a perfect example of how a new MacBook would make my life way easier. With a laptop I could have sat down in the park where those kids were and logged onto the internet through one of the many Wi-Fi signals in the area helped those people create accounts and upload their videos directly to the site on the spot.

Just another one of the many reasons that Gadget needs a Mac.

Actually if we do this right we can get some guy from Apple computers to donate a few to equip our outreach teams. I mean what's a couple of MacBooks to them? And we like the same things they like media, we like media, we do podcasting they make i-pods see we have lots in common so we should talk about getting macs if someone from apple is reading this

I need a Mac !!!!!!!!!

Im not sure about apple, but I think if you go to a distributor like Dell or something, you whould probably have better luck since they do a lot of charity work and stuff.

However if your really desperate for a Mac, I guess bothering Bill Gates is out of the question :P

Roach on 2006.07.12

NEVER, OOOOH NEVER BUY DELL!!! I have a Dell at home and you always need to order a CD and to call the company to fix a hardware in your computer, it is a pain in the ass. With the Mac you can install everything yourself without calling no one, you have NO VIRUS attacks... a lot of advantage for the kind of work we do with it.

Roach is right, the kind of stuff we do would probably crash a laptop pc in a matter of weeks

My pc is running so slow because of all the video I have saved on here. If it were a laptop it'd be dead.

Why don't you pc'ers burn all your videos onto DVD? It's more permanent anyway if your pc goes down...

My 2 cents worth

Elizabeth Lockley: Dr. Wolfgang Pauli was a physicist during the late 20th century. Whenever he stepped inside the physics lab, something would go wrong or break down, usually a very expensive piece of equipment. Became kind of a joke with the other doctors, who called it the Pauli effect. According to the story, one day an extremely sensitive and expensive piece of equipment exploded, but he wasn't in the room. So for the first time, they had some proof that the Pauli effect wasn't real. Until they found out that at the exact moment the equipment exploded, he was on a train passing by right in front of the place.

I really only need to keep what I'm doing with Chris, I'm gonna turn that into a documentary but even to do that I have to save to cd which saves in real time and I have hours of footage. then I have to take the cd home, save to sarah's computer and then save to cd and then remove everything from Sarah's computer. Very time consuming.
I keep my original video tapes.

PC vs. Mac...I work on both and find that if properly configured there isn't much of a difference except that Macs generally cost a fuck of a lot more.

are you serious?

I also work on both and I don't agree. For this kind of work you definitely need MAC. And believe me, I am a PC fan, but this kind of work needs a mac.

That sounds like a lot of work and time Kolin!

It saves in "real time"? Have you tried Nero or such or do they work on this?
