Help us save Wapiti Tents Campground.
Our campground is located on the outskirts of Canmore, Alberta, Canada. Wapiti has been operated by the Town of Canmore for over a decade as a public service. Its fundamental purpose is to provide a safe, affordable and enjoyable accommodation to young workers and low income residents who would otherwise be squatting around the Canmore town site. This is grizzly country and squatting is not a reasonable alternative to paying the extremely high rent being charged in this growing tourist town. That is why we have Wapiti Tents Campground.
Now a few administrators in the town have decided, without public consultation or any sort of input from our community, to privatize Wapiti Tents and operate it for profit. It will become just another haven for weekend Winnebago warriors. Our community of young workers, artists, musicians and merry wanderers is in danger, but it is not to late!
We are already organized! Now we just need to act! Call the Town of Canmore (403-678-1500) and leave a message for the Mayor and Council: Keep Wapiti Tents as a public service and stop messing with something that does exactly what it was created to do. Wapiti shows to visitors that the citizens of Canmore care about the young people who come to work and play here.

Notre camping est situé en périphérie de la ville de Canmore, Alberta, Canada. Le Wapiti Tents a été administré par la Ville de Canmore durant plus d'une dizaine d'années en tant que service publique. Son but fondamental est de procurer un hébergement sécuritaire, abordable et agréable pour les jeunes travailleurs et les personnes à faibles revenus qui, autrement, dormiraient autour de la ville, dans la forêt... Dans la forêt! Nous sommes au beau milieu de la région du Grizzly et, par conséquent, dormir dans la forêt n'est pas une alternative raisonnable à payer un loyer extrêmement cher dans cette ville touristique en pleine expension.
Voilà pourquoi il y a le Camping Wapiti Tents!
Toutefois, voilà que dernièrement, quelques administrateurs de la Ville ont décidé, sans avis publique ni de quelconque avis à la communauté, de privatiser le Camping Wapiti Tents et de l'administrer pour le profit! Le Camping ne deviendra alors seulement qu'un autre arrêt de fin de semaine pour les guerriers de motorisé (Winnebago). Notre belle communauté de jeunes travailleurs, d'artistes, de musiciens et de joyeux randonneux est en danger! Mais il n'est pas trop tard, nous pouvons encore agir!
Nous sommes déjà organisé! Nous n'avons besoin que de vous tous pour agir!
Appelez la Ville de Canmore (403-678-1500) et laissez ce message au Maire et au Conseil: Gardez le Camping Wapiti Tents publique et arrêtez d'essayer de gâcher quelque chose qui fait exactement ce pourquoi il a été créé. Le Wapiti Tents a montré aux visiteurs que les citoyens de Canmore accordent une grande importance aux jeunes gens qui viennent travailler et s'amuser ici.
