PARTICIPATE IN THE TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS SHELTER COLLECTIVE (TASC)'S TENT CITY COMMUNITY SURVEY!

Do you live somewhere in the Capital Regional District? Do you identify as either homeless or unstably housed? Unstably housed means that you can relate to at least one of the following points:

* More than half of your income is spent on rent
* You are "couchsurfing", or moving from place to place
* An eviction notice has been issued, and no other housing is available
* Your housing is overcrowded
* Your housing isn't healthy or isn't safe
* Violence or abuse happens in the home
* You can't come and go whenever you choose

If this is you please take 10-15 minutes to answer some questions on-line and participate in grassroots social change!

The survey is online in 2 parts. Please click on both links, and scroll down for more info on who we are, what we're doing and why:

WHO WE ARE
The Temporary Autonomous Shelter Collective (TASC) a group of homeless and housed individuals who are determined to take collective action on homelessness by ensuring that all residents on Coast Salish can live with dignity, autonomy and respect. You can read more about us at http://tentcity.wikidot.com/tasc, email us at victentcity@gmail.com, or call us at 250-472-4386.

WHAT WE'RE DOING
We are facilitating a process of creating user-run communities of temporary shelters, often called "tent cities". Sanctioned tent cities have been very successful emergency housing measures in the United States, and we're interested in building a community here.

Our first step is to conduct a survey to get the opinions of those who matter most - those who would be interested in living in a community of tents or small shelters. We have been distributing the survey within the street community, and we now are trying to reach more people with an on-line version.

WHY ARE WE WORKING FOR A "TENT CITY"?
The BC Supreme court recently ruled that homeless people have the right to erect temporary shelter in the absence of sufficient shelter beds. User-designed and user-run communities of temporary shelters have proven to be successful short-term solutions to housing crises in many communities. "Tent Cities" are low cost, immediately applicable and safe measures we can all take to provide temporary shelter. Residents report that 'tent cities' provide safety, comfort, dignity and support for people who can't access shelters or have different needs. More information on tent cities can be found at:
