Just a question? Whats your answer?

I've lived through hell and pulled myself out only to find that the world is not as well as as it seems. On the surface there are shiny happy people, but underneath is a dark and scary reality that is ignored in the hopes that it goes away: homelessness, drugs, crime, prostitution, abuse, etc. These issues and more are apparently "investigated and followed up on", but if they were and something was actually done about them, would they really be a problem in the world today?

Interesting question... you're right that there is a dark under-belly to society. Most people don't know about it or, choose not to know about it:

"Shiny happy people syndrome (SHPS) has infected millions and continues to spread, spurring fears of an epidemic. So far no genetic markers have been identified. Research, however, has indicated that a possible pathway(s) to the disease may involve elevated levels of capitalism, anemic levels of world knowledge, as well as reduced amounts of humanism. It is not clear if these factors work alone or in combination. Although this condition has claimed countless minds, scientists remain optimistic - many infected with SHPS have improved their condition through community involvement, interpersonal communication, and learning".

I think most of the problems faced in today's society arise from the fact that so many people turn a blind eye.
