IN STRAGGLING FLOW OF FLOATS

In straggling flow of floats
shopping carts arrested
no fight from the start
nothing's going to be contested
counts and countesses
plus dog accessaries
and cellular telephone vested interests
all applaud the Fair -
slurping soft rump eclairs
on roast toasted derrieres.

Affairs of the day
and conference calls
put on hold
it takes the bold
to take them to task
wear a mask
to stay warm
from their cold
hands will freeze on the gold
in under covers of the night in mold
where they grow old
somehow
they've still got the nerve
to scold.

They don't like to be told!
