Refuge des Jeunes on the Move?
The Refuge des jeunes (RDJ) may have a new home next year. The organization which is currently located on Berri (near Roy) is looking to relocate to Ste-Catherine Street East.
The RDJ - renting space at the Saint-Louis-de-France Church - is currently trying to secure financing to buy a building at 1840 Ste-Catherine, in the Village.
RDJ's lease is up in 2011.
In order to make the move official, however, RDJ must also have approval from the municipality. Interested parties and boroughs are currently debating whether or not the move would be good for the youth who depend on the RDJ - or for residents who oppose services like the RDJ in "their" neighbourhoods.

Le Refuge des jeunes de Montréal espère réussir à déménager. Pour l'instant, les locaux de l'organisme sont encore situés dans l'église Saint-Louis-de-France, rue Berri près de Roy. Mais l'immeuble a été vendu l'été dernier à l'Église évangélique Restauration.
Le bail du Refuge se termine en 2011. Il cherche du financement pour acheter un immeuble situé au 1840, rue Sainte-Catherine Est, a indiqué le mois dernier le journal Le Plateau. Il s'agit d'un sauna pour hommes situé dans le village gai.

Basically local business near the Ste-Catherine location are objecting to the move (by saying that it's not a good place for the shelter users), city councillors are naming other possible locations, and the RDJ is arguing that they need to be where the kids are.
Doesn't sound like there will be a quick resolution to this.
