Vancouver Homeless Being Moved 100km to Chilliwack before 2010 Olympic Games
I thought something was up when my neighbourhood's homeless residents started going missing a couple of weeks ago.
News1130 broke the story early this morning. It may help explain why so many visibly homeless Vancouverites have disappeared from the Downtown Eastside in recent weeks. I wonder if Suzie's there.
For those curious about my progress in locating the whereabouts of my homeless neighbour Suzie, I have come up short so far. I spoke with Vancouver Police over the phone who advised me I should check with the Salvation Army missing persons service, which is generally used by families in locating relatives who have fallen on hard times. The person I spoke with there was kind enough to take down the description I offered and send it out to local shelters as part of a list. The police had also offered telephone numbers for Vancouver General and St. Paul's Hospitals but, without a last name, it would next to impossible to find her. She was in good health and clear in her mind the last time I spoke with her which was about two days before she went missing.
On the same morning as News1130 published its report, the City of Vancouver issued a news release wherein Mayor Robertson announces further civic and provincial funds have been made available to create more shelter space throughout Vancouver proper.
