Street Mom

She needs no introduction. Street Mom has provided the warm blanket or bowl of soup to thousands of Vancouver's homeless for over 13 years. She has done what our governments have failed to do and has asked nothing in return. Now retired, it was an honour for us to have her attend one of our Gathering Place meetings recently.

having know Ellen for many years, i know the amount of work and the level of dedication this woman brought to the street.
Compassion, kindness, and a warm meal does not cover what she gave to the community. Street Mom or simply mom as she is most often referred to gave people a sense of family, belonging and unconditional love.
Mom gave of herself, she saw the need and instead of wondering what she could do, she did it, she made a difference. If there were more people like her this world would be a better place.
I know she has touched many lives, mine included and as a result i know that my life and those she has been a part of have been greatly enriched.

wow! i love mom..this is the women that would do anything for any body! and look at her happy and full of wisdom on how to help...i think we need too share mom with the world.
wow...ok this was my first time meeting street mom and what a woman..working from the heart...unconditional love...giving and giving not asking anything in return...Street Mom i really hope you get a chance to see this and keep in touch with us here at H\N your wisdom,advice and strengh is a great asset to us..Blessings..J.H.
Man it's been so long since I've seen mom.. she gave me an amazing sleeping bag for christmas a few years ago (although it was stolen out of syja where it was stored and waiting for me gr)
I finally have a home, and a stove, and a garden full of beets.. I need to search her out to get her a bowl of my own soup :)
Mom was there for me during my time on the street - unconditionally, and still is today, which equals out to half of my life :)
We are very lucky to have love from someone like mom.
I am very happy to see that she is here, being heard.
I only hope that her words of wisdom and of love will reach those with ignorant minds and closed hearts, what a gift it would be for them. love you always mom :)
